Canadians are "Incensed": MP Rob Moore

December 2, 2008 -- Ottawa, Ontario -- MP Rob Moore today commented on the feedback he has received from constituents who have written, emailed and called his office condemning the latest power grab by the leaders of the opposition parties. The vast majority of those voicing their opinion feel that the results of the last election are being overturned in a secret, backroom deal.

"The sheer number of people who are writing in, I've never seen anything like it," said Mr. Moore. "There is a groundswell of popular opinion going on. People are angry, and they are directing that anger squarely at the opposition."

"People are saying our democracy is under threat," said Mr. Moore. "They are upset because Canadians did not elect Stephane Dion to be their Prime Minister. They believe the last thing we need right now, in these uncertain economic times, is a political crisis. Finally, they are disgusted by the backroom, closed-door manner in which this deal was made."

With the Fall Economic Update, the Conservative government plans to significantly accelerate infrastructure spending for provincial and municipal infrastructure. Through working with the provinces, the government will roll-out funding for anticipated infrastructure projects faster than previously planned.

"Our $33 billion infrastructure plan is the largest since World War II," said Mr. Moore. "We've been working with the provinces in order to accelerate the delivery of funding for the most essential projects. If this coalition succeeds, they will put these plans in jeopardy."

Rob Moore is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and the MP for Fundy Royal.
