Rob Moore Pleased to Support Gas Tax Funding in New Brunswick
Hampton, NB -- November 30, 2006 -- Fundy Royal Member of Parliament Rob Moore is pleased to support the announcement made today that provides the villages of Norton, Petitcodiac and Salisbury with a total of $174,883. These municipalities received the funding under the Canada-New Brunswick Agreement on the Transfer of Federal Gas Tax Revenues and the Provincial Gas Tax Transfer Top-up Fund.
“Sharing gas tax with the province and specifically municipalities shows this new Conservative government’s commitment to our communities” said Moore. “This money will go a long way to improving the quality of life of the people in these municipalities and will also improve their infrastructure.”
The funding for Fundy Royal municipalities came as part of a 2 million dollar package for New Brunswick. This first instalment will provide 20 municipalities the opportunity to carry out significant local infrastructure improvements.
In total the Government of Canada will be providing $116 million to New Brunswick and the Province will be adding $30 million. The funds will be given to communities over the next five years for investment in environmentally sustainable municipal infrastructure.
The breakdown for the municipalities of Fundy Royal includes:
- The Village of Norton will receive $50,250 to undertake projects under the categories of active transportation infrastructure, water and wastewater.
- The Village of Petitcodiac will receive $52,963 to undertake projects under the categories of wastewater, community energy systems and active transportation infrastructure and
- The Village of Salisbury will receive $71,670 to undertake projects under the categories of water and wastewater.
