Remembrance Day in our Nations Capital

The Remembrance Day service held in our Nations Capital today attracted thousands of citizens and was one of many Remembrance Day services held across our Nation. This Remembrance Day marked the 60th anniversary since the end of the Second World War and 2005 had been designated as the Year of the Veteran.

The Prime Minister and The Governor General were among those who laid wreaths at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. The 21 gun salute followed and the Veterans marched off along with contingents of the Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The Parade of Veterans was the most emotional with the crowd providing continuous applause in appreciation for these brave men and women who served their country as the Veterans paraded by. Many people gathered around the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and placed their poppies as a sign of respect before leaving the site.
