Canada Pavilion

October 18, 2010 -- Shanghai, China -- The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of Small Business and Tourism and MP for Fundy Royal, was pleased to lead the Canadian Tourism Delegation to visit the Canada Pavilion at World Expo 2010. At the Canada Pavilion, he pedaled on an interactive bicycle through animated urban Canadian cityscapes. Minister Moore also welcomed the 5,800,000th visitor to the Canada Pavilion. This is a milestone, since Canada has now exceeded its attendance goal two weeks before the end of the exposition.

"The numbers have surpassed our most optimistic predictions," said Minister Moore. "The Canada Pavilion has shown 5.8 million visitors the image of a modern Canada, where cultural diversity, technological expertise, and concern for the environment are all assets that make our country a top destination for doing business, studying, or travelling."

With the help of Air Canada, Minister of State Moore was pleased to award Xiao Xi Zhi, the 5.8-millionth visitor to the Canada Pavilion with a free flight to the destination of her choice.

"I am very pleased today to welcome our distinguished guest, Xiao Xi Zhi, from Changzhou, in the province of Jiangsu" said Minister Moore. "I thank Xiao Xi Zhi for showing interest in the Canada Pavilion. I also thank all the other visitors who have come to the Pavilion because they wanted to learn more about who we are and what we aspire to. I invite them, as well as all the people of China, to visit Canada. We will welcome them with the hospitality and warmth for which we are known."

The Canada Pavilion is the result of a unique partnership between our government and Cirque du Soleil. Since it opened, the Pavilion has been one of the most popular attractions at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Building on its success, the Canada Pavilion is heading into its last two weeks with enthusiasm and determination. It will hold various events that will give China and visitors from around the world a final impression of Canada that is positive and unfading.
