Rob Moore Encouraged by Commitment to Issues that Matter Most to Canadians

October 16, 2007 -- Rob Moore, M.P. for Fundy-Royal, is pleased that Canada's Government plans to focus on the areas that Canadians care about most.

"Canada's Government is focussing on what Canadians want," said Mr. Moore. "We have and will continue to deliver real benefits to working people and their families while defending and advancing Canada's interests and values in the world."

Today's Throne Speech identified five themes that will dominate the government's legislative and regulatory agenda: Canadian sovereignty, a stronger federation, economic leadership, tackling crime and cleaning up the environment. Mr. Moore is particularly encouraged by the promise to re-introduce important crime legislation.

"As Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice I will be working hard to see the new Tackling Violent Crime Act through the legislative process," said Mr. Moore. "This legislation contains a number of initiatives to keep our communities safe."

Aside from introducing the Tackling Violent Crime Act a number of other initiatives in the Throne Speech include promises to introduce legislation concerning property crime, identity theft and a new national anti-drug strategy.

The Throne Speech also contained a commitment from the government to reduce taxes for all Canadians.

"This government believes that hard-working Canadians deserve a tax break," said Mr. Moore. "We will move aggressively with broad tax relief for individuals, families and businesses. This will include a further reduction to the GST."
