Minister Moore congratulates Moranda van Geest, President of the Elgin Eco Association following the funding announcement.
Support for Seniors in Elgin
October 12, 2010 -- Elgin, New Brunswick -- The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of Small Business and Tourism and Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, today announced federal support of $25,000 to the Elgin Eco Association under our government's New Horizons for Seniors Program. This program encourages seniors to continue to play an important role in their communities by helping those in need, providing leadership, and sharing their knowledge and skills with others.
"Our Government is committed to improving the lives of seniors, and is proud to support local organizations that have the same goal," said Minister Moore. "This project brings new opportunities for seniors to contribute their skills, knowledge and experience for the benefit of the entire community."
The Elgin Eco Association received support for its project entitled "Elgin Seniors Community Peace Park," in which seniors involved with the association will develop a park where they will be able to enjoy leisure time with their friends, families, and neighbours surrounded by plants, flowers and trees related to their heritage. This project is funded under the Community Participation and Leadership component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program. It is one of 797 projects that were approved through the 2010 - 2011 Community Participation and Leadership call for proposals, providing over $15.9 million in funding.
