Government of Canada Invests in Important Quispamsis Wastewater Infrastructure

September 10, 2009 -- Quispamsis, New Brunswick -- MP Rob Moore was in Quispamsis today to announce federal funding, which will go toward upgrades for the community's waste water infrastructure. The project will strengthen the New Brunswick economy while also improving the quality of life for residents.

"Through this local investment announced today, residents of Quispamsis can look forward to better accessibility and connection to quality wastewater infrastructure. It's an improvement that will protect the environment, position the town for future growth and ensure a higher quality of life for residents," said MP Moore.

The federal government is investing $1,733,333 in the infrastructure project.

The project will connect homes in Sun Valley Park, Forrester's Cove, and Wildwood Park Subdivisions to the municipal sanitary sewer collection and treatment system. With the installation of approximately 3800 metres of gravity sewer line and one wastewater pumping station, the completion of the project will mean an end to avoidable environmental concerns and contaminations.

"Now, more than ever, we need to invest in quality infrastructure that will ensure that our province and country have the capacity to grow and prosper," said MP Moore.

This project is one of 32 across the province that will get underway quickly, thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of more than $48 million announced on July 24. The governments of Canada and New Brunswick have taken steps to advance projects and flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in New Brunswick communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.

The Government of Canada's Economic Action Plan is accelerating and expanding the existing federal investment of $33 billion in infrastructure with almost $12 billion in new infrastructure stimulus funding over two years. The Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick are working closely together to ensure that these infrastructure funds are being spent on priority projects across the province.
