Chinese Tourism Officials Meet with Minister in Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls, ON -- August 22, 2010 -- The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of Small Business and Tourism and MP for Fundy Royal, greeted officials from the China National Tourism Administration, including Vice Chairman Du Jiang, during their visit to Niagara Falls. Dean Allison, MP for Niagara West–Glanbrook, was also present at the event.
"I am thrilled to welcome the Chinese delegation to Canada," said Minister Moore. "I am also glad to be able to show them some of what makes Canada a wonderful destination for our Chinese friends."
This visit follows the implementation of the Approved Destination Status agreement in June. This agreement allows Canada to market directly to Chinese consumers and permits group travel from China. This designation will result in more people travelling from China to Canada, creating jobs across the country and assisting Canada's economic recovery.
Minister Moore also reaffirmed that he will lead a tourism mission to China this fall with provincial and territorial tourism Ministers. "This will be a wonderful first-hand opportunity for our tourism leaders to experience Chinese hospitality while promoting our own great country and learning more about how best to improve our tourism offerings for our Chinese guests," stated Minister Moore.
With last week's arrival of the first wave of 350 Chinese tourists, Canadian tourism has taken a step forward in terms of competing on the world stage.
