Petitcodiac Arena Receives Federal Funding for Upgrades and Improvements
August 17, 2009 -- Petitcodiac, New Brunswick -- Rob Moore was pleased to announce federal funding for the Petitcodiac Arena thanks to investments from the Government of Canada’s Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Program, a key economic stimulus initiative under Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
"The investment in the Petitcodiac Arena is a demonstration of our Government’s commitment to encouraging higher levels of participation in physical activity, community building and enhancing the quality of life of the people in New Brunswick," said MP Moore.
The $750,000.00 project includes replacing the concrete floor and the refrigeration system, installing new piping, as well as adding new boards in the Petitcodiac Arena, which was built in 1974. The renovations will benefit residents of Petitcodiac as well as youth and seniors in nearby communities who also use the facility.
The Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), is contributing $250,000 toward the project under the RInC Program.
"By working with our partners, we’re making key investments in projects such as this one – projects that strengthen communities, create jobs, and put in place a strong economic foundation for the future," MP Moore added.
Canada’s Economic Action Plan has allocated $500 million over two years for the RInC Program, in order to support the upgrading and renewal of recreational facilities in communities, as well as to encourage increased participation in physical activity and community building. The initial allocation under RInC for Atlantic Canada is $12 million and is delivered in the region by ACOA.
Municipalities, First Nations governments, community organizations and other not-for-profit entities in Atlantic Canada that have eligible projects that can be completed before March 31, 2011 are invited to submit proposals.
For details on project eligibility and how to submit an application, please refer to the program backgrounder on ACOA’s website at www.acoa-apeca.gc.ca
