MP Rob Moore Participates in the Official Opening of Ossekeag Place

August 17, 2009 -- Hampton, New Brunswick -- MP Rob Moore was pleased to represent the Government of Canada at the official opening of Ossekeag Place of Hampton United Church, Hampton's first senior apartment housing development.

"Our government is committed to making affordable housing available in New Brunswick and across Canada for those who need it most," said MP Moore. "This project will help provide seniors with access to safe and suitable housing, allowing them to have a stronger, more secure future."

Completed in August 2009, Ossekeag place will provide thirty-two new apartments for low-income seniors. The project received $480,000 in funding under the Federal Affordable Housing Trust.

In addition, the project received funding from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) under its SEED Funding Program, which offers financial assistance to housing proponents who are in the early stages of developing an affordable housing project.

"Our government is working to build safe and strong communities. Today's event marks an important step forward for the people of Hampton and demonstrates what we can achieve when we work together," said MP Moore.

In 2009, the Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick entered into a partnership on a joint investment worth $99 million to build new and renovate existing affordable housing. The federal contribution of $53 million will help create jobs, strengthen the economy, and improve the quality of life for residents of New Brunswick.

Funding is available to private non-profit organizations, co-operatives, and community or private developers interested in developing projects for low- to moderate-income families, seniors, non-elderly singles, disabled persons and persons with special needs.
