Moore Supports Senator’s Position on Lepreau Nuclear Power Plant
Hampton – Rob Moore, MP for Fundy Royal, is in support to New Brunswick's only Conservative senator Noel Kinsella in calling for the federal government to amend the budget bill, C-48, and set aside $250 million for the refurbishment of the Point Lepreau nuclear power plant.
“The Liberal government’s announcement last week that it would not help fund the refurbishment of Point Lepreau has put many highly-paid jobs and the province’s clean energy source in peril,” said Moore.
Senator Kinsella's amendment calls for funds from the proposed $900 million in new environmental spending from the $4.6 billion NDP budget deal to go towards Point Lepreau.
Without Ottawa's help, the New Brunswick government will be forced to consider other options as a replacement energy source. “Why isn’t the federal government doing more to maintain a source of clean energy in Canada?” asked Moore. “They have found money for many other initiatives this year, where is New Brunswick’s?”
