L-R -- President of Efficiency NB Elizabeth Weir, Minister Greg Thompson and MP Rob Moore at the announcement
Energy Efficiency Incentives Now Easier to Access for NB Building Owners and Managers
July 18, 2008 -- Saint John, New Brunswick -- Building owners and managers in New Brunswick can now make a single application for financial incentives to increase their energy efficiency to both the Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick.
"I'm pleased to see that building owners and managers across the province will be able to access financial incentives more easily," said Mr. Moore. "Our government has made it even easier for Canadians to keep more money in their pockets by investing in energy-efficiency improvements that also help the environment."
Applications to Efficiency NB's Energy Smart – Commercial Buildings Retrofit Incentive Program will now be automatically considered for the commercial and institutional component of the Government of Canada's ecoENERGY Retrofit program.
Offering the most comprehensive suite of energy-efficiency programs of any jurisdiction in Canada, Efficiency NB continues to work on innovative program design and delivery to meet the goals of reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The agency has an approved annual budget of $26 million to assist New Brunswick homeowners and commercial and industrial clients with building and retrofitting for maximum energy efficiencies.
Interest in the Efficiency NB Energy Smart program is growing, and over 200 commercial buildings have taken the first step toward completing a pre-project energy audit. With this new initiative, it will be easier than ever for building owners and managers to maximize their energy-efficiency potential. New Brunswick is the first province to collaborate to offer commercial building owners and managers a single entry point to both the provincial and federal programs.
By applying for incentives from both programs, organizations can receive up to $25 per gigajoule of estimated energy savings for a maximum combined incentive of $100,000.
In addition to the Government of Canada's $375-million ecoENERGY Efficiency Initiative, which includes ecoENERGY Retrofit, the federal government has committed $1.5 billion to renewable energy sources and $230 million to accelerate the development of the next generation of technologies that will allow Canadians to produce and consume energy more cleanly.
