MP Moore announces $2,201,943 in Federal Government funding for
projects to help develop the River Trails Network
July 6, 2006 -- Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick -- Rob Moore MP for Fundy Royal, representing the Minister of ACOA announced an investment of $2,201,943 in three new
projects that will increase tourism activity along the Lower St. John
River Valley through its Innovative Communities Fund.
Officials from the towns of Hampton and Grand Bay-Westfield and the
St. John River Society joined Mr. Moore for the announcement.
The projects, which will further develop the River Trails Network, are
designed to enhance the experience of visitors to the area through the
development of river trails, multi-use river centres, boat landings
and interpretive signage.
"Our Government supports communities working together to develop a
strong, vibrant tourism industry in this region," said Mr. Moore.
"This tourism initiative will allow more people to experience the
beauty of the St. John River and will benefit the local economy by
attracting more visitors to the region.
"The Town of Hampton is very pleased to partner with the Federal
Government, represented here today by our MP Rob Moore and the St.
John River Society to develop our Lighthouse Park River Centre," said
Jim Hovey, Mayor of Hampton. "Lighthouse Park will provide public
access to the river system and the Hampton Marsh and will allow many
types of boating and outdoor activity, environmental and wetland
education, and be arts and culture venue. Council believes this site
will become a focal point for our community as it was in the past
during commerce along the River."
