Fundy National Park Receives $12 million in Federal Support
June 24, 2009 -- Alma, New Brunswick --MP Rob Moore was pleased to participate today in an announcement of federal funding to Fundy National Park.
"Our government recognizes the rich natural heritage we have in Fundy National Park," said MP Moore. "This funding will strengthen infrastructure in the Park, ensuring the preservation of this heritage and improving access to the Park."
The Government of Canada is making a $12.2 million investment in Fundy Park: $8.8 million is designated for improvements to a 4.1-kilometre span of Highway 114 west of Chignecto South; $2.9 million is designated for work to replace the Bennett Lake Dam; and $500,000 is designated for repairs to bridges and culverts.
Improvements to the dam and culverts will ensure passage for fish throughout the park, helping protecting their habitats.
"These projects demonstrate our government’s commitment to Fundy National Park and the Fundy region," added Mr. Moore. "In addition to benefitting the Park, these projects will benefit the local economy, creating jobs and increasing tourism to the area."
In August of last year, the Government of Canada announced $8.7 million in funding for construction on highway 114 in Fundy Park. A year earlier, in July 2007, the federal government launched a $3.7-million Eco-Integrity project to enhance educational experience in the Park and promote its protection.
Mr. Moore joined Minister Greg Thompson at the announcement.
Rob Moore is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and the MP for Fundy Royal.
