MP Rob Moore Condemns Liberal Carbon Tax Plan

June 19, 2008 -- Ottawa, Ontario -- MP Rob Moore today condemned Stephane Dion’s carbon tax plan.

"The Liberal carbon tax will dramatically increase the costs of home heating oil, gasoline and natural gas," said Mr. Moore. "Many of my constituents, particularly seniors, are on fixed incomes. This Liberal plan will force them to choose between filling their prescriptions or filling their home heating oil tank."

Any new tax on energy will punish truckers, cab drivers, commuters, farmers and everyday Canadians who are already suffering from rising gas prices. While Stephane Dion wants to raise taxes, Canada’s Conservative Government has lowered taxes for all Canadians by cutting the GST while reducing income taxes.

"Hard-working Canadians don’t need reminding that oil and gas prices are at an all time high," said Mr. Moore. "Stephane Dion has already talked about reversing our government’s GST cuts. Now he wants to hit low and middle income Canadians with even higher energy prices. As Mr. Dion himself acknowledged in the last Liberal leadership race, a carbon tax is mean-spirited as it will unfairly punish hard working Canadians trying to make ends meet. It is one bad idea."

Rob Moore is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and the MP for Fundy Royal.
