Portage Atlantic Celebrates Opening of new Treatment Facility
June 18, 2010 -- Cassidy Lake, NB -- Portage Atlantic marked the Official Opening of a new facility today on the 165-acre site at Cassidy Lake. In attendance were more than 200 people including the Honourable Rob Moore, MP for Fundy Royal and Minister of Small Business and Tourism. The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Premier Shawn Graham, Portage Atlantic Board members, Cassidy Lake facility staff and Portage Atlantic youth, graduates, and residents were also in attendance.
Minister Moore was very pleased to be present at the event. During the delivery of the funding in January, Minister Moore stated that "The announcement for Portage Atlantic is an important initiative for the organization and our community. It is sure to bring new hope to families and their children, not only here in New Brunswick, but across Atlantic Canada."
This event recognized and expressed thanks to Portage Atlantic supporters and celebrated the success of the Making Miracles Happen campaign. Launched in October 2006, the campaign was born to answer a critical need for improved accommodations and work spaces at Cassidy Lake.
Portage Atlantic is a charitable, non-profit organization dedicated to the reintegration of young substance abusers (aged between 14 and 21) into society as positive and productive members of their communities. With programs and services in Quebec, New Brunswick, Ontario and British Columbia, Portage represents one of the major drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs in Canada. Through the application of advanced techniques and therapeutic community best practices, Portage helps users develop self-awareness, confidence and the tools needed to cope with life's difficult challenges.
