Sea Cadets Celebrate Thirty Years

June 9th, 2007 -- Lake Petitcodiac, Riverview -- A beautiful day for Sailing was in place for the 30th Anniversary of the Sea Cadet Sail Centre on beautiful Lake Petitcodiac. A large contingent of Cadets and their families, Officers, RCMP Honour Guard, Veterans, Navy League Representatives, Lions Club Representatives, Representatives from the Town of Riverview Council, City of Moncton Council, MLA Bruce Fitch and Fundy Royal MP Rob Moore, representing the Government of Canada were in attendance. MP Rob Moore presented Lieutenant Eric Hussey OIC of the Sail Centre a certificate recognizing 30 years of service to the Youth of the Maritimes. There was a Sail Past by cadets, a ribbon cutting for the new facilities and an anniversary cake to celebrate the event.

This year marks 30 years that the Cadets have plowed the waters of Lake Petitcodiac with their Sail Boats. As a result thousands of Sea Cadets from New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia have enjoyed countless hours of fun and learning sailing over the years.

The Sea Cadet Sail Center located in Riverview on Lake Petitcodiac has recently gone through a major change. Through Cadets Canada, The Town of Riverview, The Navy League of Canada, and members of local Cadet Units, together they have completed a project that all can be proud of. This new facility serves up to 250 Sea Cadets annually. It is believed that this Sail Centre will in the near future be tasked to provide additional types of Sea Cadet Training.
