UNBSJ Receives $8 Million, NBCC Saint John Receives $2.5 Million From Federal Government

June 8, 2009 -- Saint John, New Brunswick -- MP Rob Moore was pleased to participate in an announcement of funding for the University of New Brunswick (Saint John Campus) and New Brunswick Community College (Saint John Campus). Through the Knowledge for Infrastructure Program, the Government of Canada is providing UNBSJ $8 million for its University Commons and NBCC with $2.5 million for a new Energy Programs Building.

"This is great news for students pursuing a post-secondary education," said MP Moore. "This funding will help give these students the facilities they need to make the most out of their education and gain the knowledge and experience they need to become leaders in their field."

Mr. Moore joined Saint John MP Rodney Weston who announced the funding at the event.

The Knowledge Infrastructure Program was introduced in the Government of Canada's Budget 2009, Canada's Economic Action Plan. This $2-billion, two-year program will support infrastructure enhancement in post-secondary institutions across the country.

Overall, the Government of Canada is providing $49 million for post-secondary institutions in New Brunswick.

"Our government is proud to support the advancement of research and innovation," added Mr. Moore. "The funding provided through the Knowledge Infrastructure Program will help ensure Canada remains at the leading edge of research."

Rob Moore is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and the MP for Fundy Royal.
