Riverview High School Teacher Receives Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence
May 15, 2008 -- Ottawa, Ontario -- Riverview High School’s Ian Fogarty recently received the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence. This Award honours outstanding elementary and secondary school teachers who equip their students with the knowledge and skills required for the 21st century.
Mr. Fogarty teaches chemistry and physics for Grades 11 and 12. Among his many achievements include a project with Mount Alison University involving the use of oxygen probes. His students placed first in the Aventis Biotechnology Regional Challenge. Mr. Fogarty was also awarded New Brunswick’s Innovation in Education Award.
Mr. Fogarty also updated science laboratory procedures to include new technology such as ProbeWare and computer interfacing. These changes were widely adopted throughout the province. His success in integrating information and communications technology has attracted considerable support in the form of business and government awards and grants, including Compaq’s Well Connected Educators Award, Microsoft’s Teaching with Technology Award, as well as a number of Industry Canada GrassRoots grants.
MP Rob Moore was pleased to congratulate Mr. Fogarty for his outstanding achievements.
