May 12 2007 -- Saint John, NB -- Rob and Minister Oda meet with John Corey to acknowledge his donation of New Brunswick Quilts displayed at the Museum's Market Square Exhibitions Centre.
Many of the quilts on exhibit are part of the John Corey Collection of
Domestic Textiles, acquired by the New Brunswick Museum in 2003 with
the assistance of the Viscount Bennett Trust Fund, Sheila Hugh Mackay
and other donors.
The New Brunswick Museum houses one of the most significant
collections of quilts and related textiles in Canada. Peter Larocque,
Curator of New Brunswick Cultural History and Art, explains that
"quilts not only provide a physical documentation of the comforts of
home. They are also one of the tangible ways in which the activities
of women are recorded and preserved."
