Wind Farm in Fundy Royal to Receive $29 Million in Federal Funding
May 11, 2009 -- Albert County, New Brunswick -- Rob Moore today announced that the Kent Hills Wind Farm in Albert County will receive up to $29 million from the Government of Canada.
"As Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, I am extremely pleased that our government is providing this funding to the Kent Hills Wind Farm," said MP Moore. "With this investment, our Government is helping deliver power to Canadians at a competitive price while promoting clean and renewable energy."
The Kent Hills Wind Farm, New Brunswick's first commercial wind farm, is located 30 kilometres from Moncton, in Albert County. The 96 megawatt (MW) wind farm will produce approximately 290,000 MW hours of electricity per year from its 32 turbines. This electricity will be sold to New Brunswick Power to meet the needs of over 17,000 homes.
This investment will come from the federal ecoENERGY for Renewable Power Program, a program which will invest $1.48 billion to increase Canada's supply of clean electricity from renewable sources such as wind, biomass, low-impact hydro, geothermal, solar photovoltaic and ocean energy.
"Not only will this wind farm help protect our environment, but this green-energy technology will help stimulate the economy and create jobs for Canadians," added Mr. Moore.
In Budget 2009, Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada announced it would invest $2.4 billion to support a cleaner and more sustainable environment and help meet Canada's climate change objectives. This funding includes a new, five-year, $1-billion Clean Energy Fund and a $1-billion Green Infrastructure Fund.
Rob Moore is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and the MP for Fundy Royal.
