A Secure Future for Canada's Seniors
May 3, 2007 -- Bill C-36: An Act to amend the Canada Pension Plan and the Old Age Security Act received Royal Assent. Once in force, the changes will make it easier for people to apply for benefits and will make it easier for more Canadians with disabilities to receive benefits.
Bill C-36 ensures that the Canada Pension Plan remains fully funded. It also makes it easier to apply and qualify for the Old Age Security and Guaranteed Income Supplement, and extends CPP benefits to thousands of additional Canadians with a disability.
The Conservative Government of Canada has listened to seniors and taken action to make sure that the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security meets the needs of Canadians today and in the future.
These changes demonstrate Canada's Conservative Government's commitment to Canada's seniors and persons with disabilities, reinforcing Canada's public pensions as cornerstones for retirement and income security.
