Rob Moore MP represents the Canadian Government at the Official Opening of the 37th Canadian Brigade Group (Canadian Forces Recruiting Group)
Moncton -- April 20, 2006 -- Rob Moore MP for Fundy Royal and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice spoke on behalf of the Honourable Gordon O'Connor, the Minister of National Defence and joined with Moncton Mayor Lorne Mitton at the Official Opening of the 37th Canadian Brigade Group (Canadian Forces Recruiting Group). The new centre is located at Place Heritage Court, 95 Foundry Street, Suite 102, Moncton.
"This office is Canada's newest Recruiting Office. The very heart of the Canadian Forces are the people who put Canada first. People who are committed to protecting Canadians here at home. People who will stand beside our allies and people who are prepared to proudly wear the Maple Leaf abroad to protect our interests and values," noted Mr. Moore.
"This Government has made it quite clear that it intends to increase the strength of the Canadian Forces to at least 75,000 Regular Force members and recruit an additional 10,000 Reservists. This objective is part of our Canada First Defence Policy that will strengthen Canada's independent capacity to defend our National Sovereignty and security at home and abroad. These new people will enhance the Forces' capacity to carry out their domestic, continental and international roles. They will also help to address shortages in some 80 critical trades and occupations.
Every job in the Canadian Forces offers challenging and meaningful work; work that the Prime Minister recently described as "the highest calling of citizenship." We've already had some success in recruiting. Last year, the Canadian Forces achieved 106% of their Regular Force enrollment targets. To ensure that we can continue this trend and opening this new Office will help do just that" concluded Mr. Moore.
Five new full-time military jobs are being added to Moncton's economy.
Mr. Moore went on to make note that "our Province has an incredible military heritage -- one that spans several centuries. This new Office will better assist people living in this part of New Brunswick who are considering joining the Canadian Forces. New Brunswickers who will further the proud heritage of service to Canada whether at sea, on the ground, or in the air. Many people played a part in bringing this important new Office to fruition, and I know that the Minister of National Defence appreciates your important efforts."
