Federal Government Supports Anagance Seniors
April 7, 2009 -- Anagance, New Brunswick -- Mr. Rob Moore, Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, today announced federal funding towards the improvement of the facilities and equipment of Anagance Seniors under the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
"The Government of Canada is proud to support seniors across our country," said Mr. Moore. "This project will enable the continuation of programs and activities for seniors in Anagance and help them remain involved in their community."
Anagance Seniors, a non-profit organization for seniors, will receive $25,000 in funding under the Capital Assistance component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which helps organizations that support seniors to replace outdated equipment or undertake needed renovations.
Eligible activities for Capital Assistance include repairs or renovations to existing seniors’ community facilities, or the purchase or replacement of equipment and furnishings required for community programs and activities for seniors.
"This project is only one of many examples of our government’s support to seniors," added Mr. Moore. "In our Economic Action Plan, we increased the Age Credit, reduced the required minimum withdrawal for RRIFs, and introduced the Targeted Initiative for Older Workers. Our government is looking out for the needs of seniors."
Among the three components of the New Horizons for Seniors Program—Capital Assistance, Community Participation and Leadership, and Elder Abuse Awareness—the overall budget of the Program is $35 million per year.
Rob Moore is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and the MP for Fundy Royal.
