Riverside-Albert Community Centre -- April 1, 2006 -- A good sized crowd was on hand to welcome Rob Moore MP for Fundy Royal who announced on behalf of the new Federal Conservative Government, support for the $817,089 Riverside-Albert water system upgrade.
Opening remarks and introduction of dignitaries was done by Master of Ceremonies, Adrian Kenne, Deputy Mayor.
Rob was asked to come to the podium and make the announcement.
The $272,363 in federal funding is through the Canada-New Brunswick Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund.
The project involves the upgrading of the municipal water system which entails improvements to the existing reservoir, purchase and installation of a filtration system, chlorination, construction of a reservoir to improve chlorine contact, purchase of a back-up generator and modifications to the distribution system.
Among the significant benefits to this community will be improved water quality to 157 households and system service reliability.
Assuring adequate potable water is crucial for healthy, strong communities. It is essential infrastructure that supports the economic growth of the community while serving the needs of our citizens.
Projects like this demonstrate our collective commitment to environmental responsibility and quality of life in our communities.
Rob noted "All three levels of government have worked together, and this investment is the direct result of a partnership that responded to a priority identified by this community. "
"This is the true spirit of federal-provincial engagement – working together on common goals, and serving Canadians. Together, we can respond to the unique needs of our communities regardless of where they are located. I want to say a special thanks to Minister Wayne Steeves and Mayor Fife for all their hard work in getting this project put forward."
"This is a great day for Southeast New Brunswick. Together, we are taking an important step forward in improving the lives of our citizens by making a significant investment in community infrastructure." said Rob.
Hon. Wayne Steeves, Minister of Public Safety and MLA for Riverside-Albert then announced the Province's share of financial support to this project. Following Minister Steeve's address, Mayor Malcolm Fife came to the podium and gave his remarks and expressed his gratitude top both Rob and Minister Steeves along with those on his council who have worked so hard to see this day arrive.
