Federal Government help for Harbour Cleanup good news for City and Province Rob Moore MP for Fundy Royal and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, is pleased following Friday's announcement by Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Saint John announcement for funding of the necessary groundwork. The $8.5 million announced on Friday March 24th is allocated on a cost shared basis and will fund the construction of a new lift station, the associated force-main collector and sanitary collector systems. Mr. Moore worked with the John Wallace, the Conservative Candidate for Saint John during the last election to have Harbour Cleanup brought to the forefront. During the campaign, Mr. Moore and Mr. Wallace arranged a meeting between the Mayor of Saint John and Stephen Harper resulting in Mr. Harper pledging to help see this problem solved. Mr. Moore upon election set up meetings in Ottawa between Minister Trevor Holder and Minister Rona Ambrose so that they could discuss the issue. This meeting resulted in Minister Ambrose coming to Saint John to see first hand what the situation was. "I was pleased with my Government's interest and its commitment on this issue. This serious problem has existed for decades in this city, yet in just a short period of time we are now finally seeing action being taken by the new Federal Conservative Government." "During the election claims made by the former Government of their support for Harbour Cleanup but upon taking office there were no funds found budgeted for this project. Prime Minister Harper's statement on Friday that in the weeks, months and hopefully years ahead, my Government will continue to work with Premier Lord in cleaning up Saint John Harbour. This is the strongest indication that funding will continue for such a project, said Moore."
