Additional Federal Support for the Fundy Civic Centre

February 24, 2011 -- Sussex, New Brunswick -- The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism and MP for Fundy Royal, today delivered good news to the residents of the Sussex region. Our Government has announced additional funding to allow the Town of Sussex to move forward with the Fundy Civic Centre project. New Brunswick Natural Resources Minister Bruce Northrup represented the provincial government at the announcement.

"The Government of Canada, in collaboration with the Province of New Brunswick, is proud to support the construction of the Fundy Civic Centre," said Minister Moore. "Our Government continues to work with communities and organizations across New Brunswick to support initiatives that diversify the economy, create jobs and improve the quality of life of the residents."

The Fundy Civic Centre project involves the construction of a civic centre in Sussex to serve citizens of the area. It will offer community meeting and spectator space, an indoor aquatic facility and fitness centre, including a walking track.

In 2007 our Government announced a $1.3 million investment to support the project. Today, our Government, along with the Province of New Brunswick, have committed $1 million each to allow the Town of Sussex to move forward with the Fundy Civic Centre project, improving recreational opportunities for residents. This support will cover the increased costs associated with the project originally announced in July 2007.
