Official Opening of the 8th Hussars Sports Centre

February 24, 2011 -- Sussex, New Brunswick -- The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism, today celebrated the official opening for the 8th Hussars Sports Centre. As part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the Harper Government invested $122,704 for new rink boards, glass, lighting, electrical upgrades and other renovations.

"Our government’s top priority is the economy, which is why we are continuing to implement Canada's Economic Action Plan," said Minister Moore. "These upgrades to the 8th Hussars Sports Centre have created local jobs and economic growth, and will improve the lives of residents in the area so that Canadian families continue to prosper for years to come."

Canada's Economic Action Plan continues to create jobs and economic growth with more than 26,000 job-creating projects underway or completed from coast to coast to coast. The results are clear: Since July 2009 Canada's economy has created over 460,000 new jobs and the economy has grown for five straight quarters.

"We will continue to support job creation and small business with targeted investments and, most importantly, lower taxes," said Minister Moore. "Since coming to office, our government has reduced taxes 120 times, including lowering the small business tax rate to 11 per cent while increasing the income threshold for this lower rate to $500,000. Canada now has an overall tax rate on new business investment that is substantially lower than that in any other G-7 country."

Canada's Economic Action Plan provides close to $16 billion to modernize a broad range of infrastructure including roads, bridges, public transit, parks and water treatment facilities, and to support home ownership, help stimulate the housing sector and improve housing across Canada.
