Parliamentarians Will Have Opportunity to Question Supreme Court Nominee at Ad Hoc Committee
“Canadians Voted for Increased Openess and Accountability,” MP Moore Says
Hampton, NB - Rob Moore, MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, is pleased with Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s announcement that a publicly televised appearance by the nominee before the Ad Hoc Committee to Review a Nominee for the Supreme Court of Canada, will be used in the process to fill the current vacancy on the Supreme Court of Canada.
Moore says, “Many Canadians will want to know more about the person nominated to be the new Supreme Court Justice. The Ad Hoc Committee will provide a forum for elected representatives of the people, representing all the political parties in the House of Commons, to learn more about the nominee. There is currently no formal public committee for vetting Supreme Court Judges, and our government is taking the first step to include the citizens of Canada in the process. In the election, Canadians voted for increased openness and accountability in our federal government, and we are delivering.”
