Petitcodiac Arena Renovations
February 5, 2011 -- Petitcodiac, New Brunswick -- The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of Small Business and Tourism and MP for Fundy Royal, today gathered with provincial government officials and residents of the Village of Petitcodiac to celebrate the community enrichment provided by the upgraded village arena at its official opening. Also at the event were Petitcodiac MLA Sherry Wilson, and His Worship Peter Saunders, Mayor of Petitcodiac. Recreation Council Representative Barry Keith was also present at the celebration.
"As Canada emerges from the global recession, our Government is proud of the investments we have made, through Canada's Economic Action Plan, in community infrastructure projects that have supported employment and contributed to local economic activity at a difficult time," said Minister Moore. "The improvements to the Petitcodiac Arena ensure that local residents will continue to have access to an important community recreational facility for years to come."
The project enabled the Village of Petitcodiac to redo the entire ice surface with new pipes, perform structural work under the floor involving underground ties, as well as add new boards in the Petitcodiac arena, which was built in 1974. This project will benefit residents of Petitcodiac as well as youth and seniors in nearby communities who also use the facility.
Our Government has invested $250,000 through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Program, a key economic stimulus initiative under Canada's Economic Action Plan. The Government of New Brunswick also contributed $250,000 through the Regional Development Corporation; while the Village of Petitcodiac provided the remaining $250,000 in funding.
