Federal Government provides over $32,000 for municipal water and wastewater services
January 23, 2008 -- Sussex Corner, New Brunswick -- Rob Moore, M.P. for Fundy Royal, today announced the Federal Government’s contribution of over $32,000 for water and wastewater services in the Village of Sussex Corner. Residents of Sussex Corner will soon benefit from improvements to the village’s water and wastewater services thanks to two investments totalling nearly $100,000 from the Canada-New Brunswick Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).
“Our government’s investment of over $32,000 for improvements to Sussex Corner’s water and wastewater services is an investment in a cleaner environment and a safer community,” said Mr. Moore. “The people of Sussex Corner expect a safe and clean water supply. The Government of Canada is getting it done.”
The MRIF investments will be made through two separate projects in Sussex Corner that will benefit 523 families through increased water pressure, improved water quality and higher quality wastewater treatment. The improvements will also prevent untreated wastewater from entering nearby Trout Creek.
“Our government is committed to investing in infrastructure projects that improve the quality of life for local residents,” said Mr. Moore. “Improved water quality and wastewater services will help the Village of Sussex Corner become even more sustainable for the long-term.”
The Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Government of New Brunswick and the Village of Sussex Corner will each contribute one third – or $32,593 – towards the eligible costs of the projects. The wastewater pumping station project will total $22,485 (or $7,495 each), while water system improvements will total $75,303 (or $25,101 each).
