MP Rob Moore appointed to Prime Minister Harper's Cabinet

January 20, 2010 -- Ottawa, Ontario -- Yesterday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced changes to his Cabinet. A ceremony took place at Rideau Hall, where MP Rob Moore was appointed as Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism.

"It is a great honour and privilege to accept this position," said Minister Moore. I am particularly pleased because small businesses and tourism are so much a part of our economy and our way of life in New Brunswick. I will be working to ensure that our government's Economic Action Plan continues to be implemented, strengthening our economy, as it did through the last year," Minister Moore added.

The Small Business and Tourism Branch is responsible for maintaining a strategic overview of Canadian small business across industrial sectors and tourism regions. While taking view of marketplace conditions affecting tourism and small business, it also involves providing advice on government policies and programs designed to help the small business community and tourism sector grow and succeed.

Branch activities include conducting research, carrying out policy analysis, developing advice, and meeting the information needs of tourism and small business, while simplifying access to government services.

"I want to extend my gratitude for the support that I have received since the appointment. Serving in this new position is certainly a great honour, and I would like to thank everyone who has written in and called to give their best wishes," said Minister Moore.

Rob Moore was first elected to the House of Commons in 2004 and re-elected in 2006 and 2008.

Rob Moore is the Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism and the MP for Fundy Royal.
