MP Rob Moore Announces Federal Funding for the Fairfield Community Centre
January 18, 2010 -- Fairfield, New Brunswick -- Today MP Rob Moore was in Fairfield to announce federal funding for a new community centre, which will bring important benefits to the area and surrounding region.
"Projects such as the Fairfield Community Centre are important to the economic, social and cultural health of our communities – they help to generate additional economic activity, support local jobs and create community infrastructure that will benefit the area for years to come," said MP Moore.
The Fairfield United Baptist Church will build the community centre next to the existing church building. This centre will benefit the economy of Fairfield and surrounding communities by providing a facility where groups can hold meetings, provide training, and host cultural and community events.
Under the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), a key economic stimulus initiative under Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada is providing $150,000 of the project's total cost of $300,000.
"Through the Community Adjustment Fund, we are reducing the impacts of the global economic downturn by delivering timely and targeted support to Canadian workers, families, communities and businesses. With projects like the one we are celebrating today, our government is helping to keep Atlantic Canada moving forward," MP Moore added.
Canada's Economic Action Plan is providing $1 billion over two years through the CAF program to assist communities affected by the current global economic downturn to create jobs and sustain local employment. In Atlantic Canada, CAF is delivered by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
